The city of Puerto Iguazú was chosen as one of the 10 most sustainable destinations in Argentina, according to a study carried out by the Booking.com platform.
The study, which included more than 31,000 travelers from 34 countries, including Argentina, revealed that sustainable travel is important to 88% of the local traveling community.
When analyzing the country's destinations according to the number of accommodations with sustainable certifications (hotels, houses, apartments and others) in relation to the total accommodation offer, the city of Misiones was ranked fourth.
Villa General Belgrano, La Cumbre and San Javier, all in the province of Córdoba, were in the top 10. The top 10 is completed by Cachi (Salta), Santiago del Estero capital; El Calafate (Santa Cruz); Mar de las Pampas (Buenos Aires); Salta capital; and the City of Buenos Aires.
Booking.com said that “the influence of caring for the environment continues to be a very important factor for Argentines when considering their trips,” and highlighted “the great effort made by accommodations and destinations to become more sustainable in a context as challenging as the one we are experiencing in the country.”
In this regard, the president of the Iguazú Tourism Municipal Entity, Leopoldo Lucas, highlighted: “We celebrate the vision and efforts of our private sector. From our position, we support this work in regard to sustainability, understanding tourism as an activity that, in addition to taking care of natural resources, can improve the quality of life of all people through the generation of work, inclusion and training.”
