The city of Puerto Iguazú was chosen as one of the 10 most sustainable destinations in Argentina, according to a study conducted by the Booking.com platform.
The study, which included more than 31,000 travelers from 34 countries, including Argentina, revealed that 88% of the local travel community considers sustainable travel important.
When analyzing the country's destinations based on the number of certified sustainable accommodations (hotels, houses, apartments, and others) in relation to the total accommodation offering, the city of Misiones ranked fourth.
Villa General Belgrano, La Cumbre, and San Javier, all in the province of Córdoba, were ahead. Rounding out the top 10 are Cachi (Salta); Santiago del Estero (Santa Cruz); Mar de las Pampas (Buenos Aires); Salta (Salta); and the city of Buenos Aires.
Booking.com noted that "environmental protection continues to be a very important factor for Argentinians when considering their travels," and highlighted "the great efforts made by accommodations and destinations to become more sustainable in such a challenging context as the one we are experiencing in the country."
In this regard, the president of the Iguazú Municipal Tourism Board, Leopoldo Lucas, emphasized: "We celebrate the vision and efforts of our private sector. We support this work in terms of sustainability, understanding tourism as an activity that, in addition to protecting natural resources, can improve the quality of life for all people through job creation, inclusion, and training."
